For Christmas, I received a wonderful book on shopping for vintage clothing that will delight you if vintage is your niche. I'm still learning and there's oh so much to learn.
Entitled "Shopping for Vintage - The Definitive Guide to Fashion" by Funmi Odulate is a great introduction to this genre.
My husband got it at Anthropologie (my favorite store!)but it's available on Amazon.com and most bookstores.
Highly recommended.

Spotlight on Yves St. Laurent
I had the great pleasure of visiting the Yves St. Laurent exhibit at the De Young Museum in San Francisco last weekend. What a spectacular display of eye candy by this iconic designer. Described as a virtuoso, visionary, and genius by many, whatever the moniker, he's truly an artist of the highest caliber and this exhibit rocked!
I was especially fond of the pieces that were reminiscent of particular artists in history like Mondrian and Picasso. This master couturier broke all the rules of fashion in his time - mixing bright candy colors, textures; incorporating his love of the natural world in his clothing, and introducing exotic elements drawn directly from his love of other cultures (Russia,Spain, China, Morocco).
Don't miss this show. It's a real treat and the museum is beautiful. The exhibit continues through early April. Open Tuesday - Sunday 9:30 - 5:15 and Fridays 9:30-8:45, closed on Mondays. Check out the website for details: www.deyoungmuseum.org

There's Cash In Your Closets!
Well, it's official - Punxsutawney Phil (more commonly known as Mr.Groundhog) saw his shadow today, so that means we officially have 6 more weeks of winter. Of course, we all know that's a bunch of "groundhogwash" as we experience another week of record high temperatures.
Spring has definitely sprung at Red Umbrella Consignment. We've received hundreds of new spring items over the past couple of weeks and they're selling like hotcakes. We have a NEW shipment of items from "Free People", "Lux", and "Urban Outfitters", sure to please the sun worshippers amongst us. You can't beat these prices - about 1/3 of retail.
Now's the time to go through your drawers and closets to see what you'd like to bring us to consign. Lightweight tops, sweaters, pants, jeans, sandals, skirts, dresses etc. all in pristine condition (and, of course, no more than 2 years old)are what we're looking for. Freshly laundered or drycleaned is a must...
We'll also take season appropriate purses and accessories.
No appointment necessary. Come on by Mon-Sat between 10 and 5. See you then.

Do You Have Cash in Your Closets?
Even though it's really winter and only January 15th... and... our temperatures have been more spring like than winter like, it's time to prepare your spring items for consignment. We've begun receiving our first spring merchandise this week. Lots of cute stuff and much more to come. Of course, we have to clear out the last vestiges of winter items, so if you've been hankering for one more sweater, hoodie, jacket or coat, have a look at our clearance items when you bring in your spring goodies.
We know there's cash in those closets! Of course, items must have been purchased new in the past 2 years, be in excellent condition(we really mean that) no snags, no tears, no broken zippies, clean, clean, clean - on hangers or neatly folded. No appointment necessary - Monday - Friday 10 -5 pm.
Hope to see you soon!

Free People, Lux, Odille
Well, you might say that Spring seems to have sprung considering the 70 plus degree temperatures we've been experiencing this week. Can you believe it? The middle of January and folks are wearing capris, shorts and sleeveless tops? No way!....Way!
While the current weather is only a teaser, warm temps are just around the corner and we've just received a shipment of our first taste of spring/summer. If you or your kids love "Free People". "Lux", "Odille" (all from Anthropologie), then you're in for a real treat. We've got about 60 pieces from Free People alone. Can you say layering tanks, totally cool sleeveless tops for casual or dress...? And...at amazingly low prices compared to retail.
Don't miss out. More shipments coming throughout the month.

Happy Holidays From The Gang at Red Umbrella Consignment
It's a wet wintry week in Northern California, just perfect for cozy Christmas and Hanukkah celebrations. No matter what your holiday plans are, we send all of you our love and blessings for a joyous holiday season and a prosperous new year.
The past month has been a busy one at Red Umbrella Consignment. Lots of new customers and many new consignors have discovered Petaluma's hidden treasure. For some of you, this is your first foray into the world of consignment. The comments we've been hearing have proven to us once again that great shopping values and unique merchandise can be found in our store and consignment shopping can be so much fun. Of course, if you're consigning for the first time, it's always great to put a little green in your pocket. Speaking of green, by reselling, recycling and shopping resale, you are helping to keep our planet a little bit greener by preventing unnecessary dumping in our landfills.
We want to thank you all for your support and patronage and hope that we'll continue to see you in our store for many years to come. You are the backbone of our business.
Be sure to watch for the next e-mail announcing our winter clearance sale. It'll be a big one!
